Types of Cribs

In the past weeks, we have outlined various types of car seats and strollers, but this week we will now focus on the topic of cribs. Cribs play an essential part of a baby’s upbringing and without it, dangerous scenarios can arise. Let us differentiate the types of cribs below so as a consumer, you will know which one is suitable for your needs.

Convertible Crib: aside from the regular type crib the market offers, there is another type of crib called convertible crib. Very similar to the idea of 3-in-1 car seat, this type of crib grows along your little one from newborn to toddler, and some can accommodate to full grown adult. This type of crib will offer additional add-on parts that can be attached with the crib from newborn to toddler, to a day bed, and some, full-sized beds. It is very efficient, time and money-saving option so parents do not have to keep on buying new beds as their little one outgrows each bed type.

Combo-Crib (combination for short): this type of crib is also a space saver, as there is a changing table attached to the crib itself. Most of the combo crib also have additional drawers underneath the changing table, so that it can store most of the baby necessities for convenience’s sake. Some combo-cribs even offer convertible crib features so it can accommodate your growing baby to its size.

Crib with under-crib drawer: As the name suggests, this type of crib has additional drawers under the crib itself. It is somewhat similar to combo-crib described above, and some brands even combined to make the two together. There, this type of space-saver crib can be very useful if the space inside the home or apartment is limited.

Portable Crib: as the name suggest, this type of crib has wheels attached to its legs and can be movable to fit a family’s needs. It is a good crib to use when you would like to have the baby at your side in the living room, dining room or in the bedroom to rest. As always, safety comes first and you should always keep an eye on your baby.  Portable crib can be a good choice for families that have travel needs such as visiting their gran parents or other related trips.

Pack ‘N Play Crib: This type of crib is a heavy-duty crib that can act as a crib and also a play area at the same time. Although there are many types of materials used for this crib, most of them are made out of aluminum for additional strength and covered by foam and mesh. In addition, this type of crib can also be taken apart easily so parents can take it on the go and can be used in sleep-overs or camping trips as well. However, it is recommended that regular crib’s mattress should not be installed in this type of crib. The regular crib’s mattress is too thick, and sometimes, there are gaps between the mesh and the mattress’s edge in which little ones can be caught in.

Parents should always remember to shop around and ask for in-store professional advice before buying the first crib they see. There are numerous stores that have the actual product on the showroom so that parents can be sure that the type of crib they choose will best suit their needs. As stated before, safety always come first. Follow instructions should you choose to install the crib yourself, or should you have any doubt, you can always ask the store to put the crib together for you.
