On September 22nd, 2022, tragic struck for the Wiesman family. Two-year-old Ian Wiesman was found dead in the vehicle outside the day care center that belonged to his grandfather Mr. William Wiesman. According to Blount County in the state of Alabama, District Attorney Pamela Casey stated in a press conference that Mr. Wiesman would be charged with reckless manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide due to the fact that, his two-year-old grandson was left in a vehicle for a prolonged period of time.
Here are some of the facts in this case:
- Toddler was found shortly after 3pm in a vehicle in the daycare parking lot.
- Daycare was not involved in this case and was not responsible for the toddler in any way for this case.
- Mr. William Wiesman was set for a bond of the amount of USD $30,000.
- Mr. Wiesman took the toddler and he thought he had dropped off the toddler to the daycare. But instead, Mr. Wiesman drove directly to his job.
- During the day, Mr. Wiesman entered his vehicle three different times but failed to see or aware that his grandson Ian was still in the vehicle.
- The toddler was sitting in a forward-facing car seat.
- This is case #29 documented in the hot car deaths in the continental United States.
Last year on October 29th, 2021 we had discussed what happens when humans become distracted and information forgotten. This can be classified as such a case where old information takes over and new information is forgotten. When this happens, it is called Proactive interference. It occurs when previously learned information makes it more difficult to form new memories. In addition, habitual memory comes in to play in this case where Mr. William Wiesman is so used to going to his job everyday as a habit, the new memory (taking his grandson to the daycare) was forgotten. Hence, the tragedy happened.
As a father myself, I believe that yes, it can happen to anyone! Every time I read hot car death cases, a piece of my heart goes to the family that was affected. I had incidents where I have forgotten my cell phone at home, or where I have forgotten to take care of other daily tasks. But, to forget a little loved one at the back of the vehicle is something I vowed to never, ever happen to me.
To me, a parent is best described by some of the following words: to love, to protect, to coach, to provide, to be understanding, to never give up, to sacrifice anything for your child (children), and so on. Note! To love and to protect will always come before anything else. My child means the world to me, and when he/she is loved and is protected, everything else will fall into place.
One form of protection for parents, is to provide the best possible care for your child, therefore, we are looking for potential beta testers for Baby Car Safe kit. We, at The Rocket Innovation, believe the sooner we collect more feedback, the faster we can roll out our product to the world. We believe Baby Car Safe kit will help change parent’s lives, and most important of all, love and protect the ones we care most about: our children.
