900 minutes!

That was how long the two-year-old daughter was left in a vehicle and when paramedics arrived on the scene to revive her, it was too late!

The third hot car death occurred on May 16th, 2023. 911 call was placed by the mother (Kathreen Adams, 23) at around 3pm, stating that her child was unresponsive and she needed immediate assistance.  Police arrived on the scene noting that the toddler was in the mother’s arms and quickly tried to revive the child.

According to the police report, the mother claimed she did not know why the child was in this state as they were inside their home the whole time.  Police then took over and quickly realized that the child was hot to the touch.  Paramedics then examined the child and noted that the internal body temperature of the child was 107 degrees C (41.6 degrees F), and knew that the mother’s story was not true.

Police then did a quick search in the home of the parents and found methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.  The father, Christopher McLean 32, was reported as uncooperative during questioning and finally the mother admitted that she had left the child in the vehicle the night before.  It was found that the mother arrived home the night before around midnight and did not want to wake up her daughter who fell asleep in the car on the ride home.  Ms. Adams then left her child in the car.

Both parents then went into their home and fell asleep, leaving the child in the vehicle until around 3pm the next day.  Holmes county sheriff’s office later declared that both parents were charged with child neglect and drug-related charges.

It hurts to see that such a young child had passed away due to the parent’s irresponsible actions.  Furthermore, when drugs are introduced to the lives of the parents, this equates to potential harm to the innocent little ones.  Webster’s dictionary defined the word responsibility as “the quality or state of being responsible: such as moral, legal, or mental accountability. Reliability, trustworthiness”.

We, as parents, should have the moral, legal, or mental obligation to love and protect our little ones when they are first introduced to this world.  There is no better feeling in this world to see our beloved children grow up one day at a time, with us providing them with all that we can.
